Cordia to create 130 jobs for care service
GLASGOW’S large care service will create 128 new jobs as part of a new home-care service for elderly people with complex needs.
Supported Living, to be rolled out city-wide, is designed to ensure older people with additional needs can stay at home.
Run with the Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP), it is tailored to help them live semi-independently and reduce the risk of hospital admissions or the need to move to a care home.
Cordia is undertaking a recruitment drive aimed at employing a further 128 carers with knowledge and experience of the care sector to staff the service.
Frances McMeeking, Cordia’s head of Care Services, said: “This is our most flexible form of care package, created for service-users with highly specific needs.
“Supported Living places a major focus on ensuring serviceusers can continue to remain at home even with complex needs, supported by an intense package to maintain their health, wellbeing and independence.
“We’re working in partnership with Glasgow Health and Social Care Partnership to manage referrals to this service, quickly and professionally assessing needs to develop the appropriate package.”
The service delivers more than a traditional home-care package, placing an emphasis on activities that promote socialisation while the client receives up to 30 hours of visits per week.
The initiative is a targeted at people aged 65 and over, who are in hospital and could return home or have recently been dis- charged from hospital but are in receipt of Palliative care or need more support than is available from traditional home care
The overall goal is to enable people to continue living in the comfortable environment of their own homes for as long as possible without the requirement to be admitted into a care home.
Around 82 service-users across the city are registered on Supported Living with plans to increase this to 140 by December.
Ms McMeeking added: “The operations team is growing and we’re actively recruiting for home carers with at least one year of experience to provide the service as it feeds out across Glasgow.”
Cordia is Scotland’s largest home-care provider, employing 2800 home-carers and 161 coordinators.
