Pride as Scotland named most beautiful country
GLASWEGIANS have expressed their pride at Scotland being named the most beautiful country in the world.
A poll conducted by travel guidebook company Rough Guide asked its readers to reveal what they feel is the most stunning destination on the planet.
Scotland came out on top thanks to its wild beaches, deep lochs and craggy castles, beating off competition from the likes of Canada, Italy and England.
The accolade has been met with excitement from residents who firmly believe that it is much deserved.
The Evening Times took to the streets of Glasgow to find out if our readers agree with the poll.
Catherine McCormick, 65, from Penilee, was in complete agreement.
She said: “It’s a beautiful country.”
Her opinion was echoed by banker Ross Lennox from Milngavie.
The 24-year-old said: “That’s fantastic! Very good.
“I think it’s a good thing, the more people we can attract the better.”
Foundry worker Frank Peebles, 59, from Possil, said no other country can match what Scotland has.
He commented: “Scotland is a beautiful place. I’ve been to loads of places – Spain, Italy, Greece – and I’d say Scotland is the best place.”
However, there were a few people who felt that voters may have got it wrong.
Callum Dick, 18, student from Airdrie, said: “I do agree with it, some parts more than others I don’t think the city centre is but definitely the countryside is beautiful.”
Amy Mills, 17, waitress from Washington DC commented: “I wouldn’t say it’s the most beautiful.
“I’m from America so I like to represent. I don’t think it is the most beautiful, but it is still a nice country.”
Thomas Gant, 19, a student from Kirkcaldy, commented: “I think we deserve it. It’s a beautiful country.”
