Firms want to raise bar

HUNDREDS of bosses of city pubs, clubs and restaurants will gather at a conference in the city to find out how to improve their businesses.

Around 200 delegates will attend the Best Bar None Glasgow Raise the Bar event which will be held in October.

They will have the chance to attend 10 workshops covering a wide range of topics including noise management, recognising counterfeit goods, protecting premises against drugs misuse and the impact of the pending city review of licensing policy.

A range of experts including Paul Waterson of the Scottish Licensed Trade Association and Glasgow Chamber of Commerce chief executive Stuart Patrick will also take part in a question and answer session.

City council leader Susan Aitken said: “The city’s night-time economy attracts visitors to Glasgow where they can enjoy a great night out.”

Initiatives like Best Bar None Glasgow ensure people can relax and enjoy themselves in a safe and pleasant environment.

“This conference will bring together experts in this sector to share best practice and specialist knowledge. It promises to be an interesting event.”

Best Bar None Glasgow was developed in partnership with Glasgow City Alcohol and Drugs Partnership, the city council, Community Safety Glasgow, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue and the Scottish Late Night Operators Association.

It organises regular training seminars on topics such as stewarding, crime scene preservation, drug prevention, responsible drinking and recognising and protecting vulnerable people.
