Cup win was nice revenge for Fife jeers

-

AFTER winning the Scottish Elite Cup at the weekend, I now know how the Fife Flyers will treat me.

They definitely booed me after I left them in the summer to return to Braehead Clan, but it’s okay though. That’s the name of the game.

Some fans there are a little sour that I decided not to go back so I kind of expected the reaction I got from them at Murrayfield on Sunday.

Looking back, I think it was a great tournament and it gave us a chance to get a few more games before the regular season starts properly this weekend.

It was an up and down, back and forth kind of game and we responded, so getting that first goal was important for us.

It was a great way to end the weekend with the win. Victory always brings you closer together, with the trophy an added bonus.

As those who were there saw, I got myself into a bit of a situation with one of the Fife players, Liam Heelis, in the game.

I don’t fight as much as I used to when I was younger, but when the time comes it happens and he had been all over me most of the game.

He actually talked way too much and I’d had enough. I know he’s a young guy, but I didn’t appreciate the lack of respect from him.

The games with Fife probably won’t be as crazy as that all the time, but I’m sure it will happen from time to time.

The tournament format with both games back to back and the performances we’ve seen was a good thing in the one place.

The level of play seen by the fans will bring them back, plus there will lead to word of mouth and I think it will get bigger in the future.

IIt was more a feeling out kind of thing where you get to see your opponents closely.

Every guy wants to win and you definitely saw that in the final.

I think John will have learned a lot from the weekend about what each team will bring and I think it showed the Scottish level is getting better all the time.

Now we have road games coming up because Disney on Ice takes over at our arena for the rest of September.

Months like this one coming up can be tough, when it’s road games all the way for a few weeks, but I think we have a team that can play at home and on the road.

If we could steal some games and win some, it can give you a huge advantage for when you do come home.

That’s certainly our goal and I think good things can happen with the work ethic we have within our team.
