Rematch will be a different Storey, warns Jags ace Miles

- By CHRIS JACK

MILES STOREY insists Partick Thistle will have no fear heading into their rematch with Rangers as they bid for a Betfred Cup semi-final berth.

Alan Archibald’s side were denied a famous derby victory on Friday night as Graham Dorrans rescued a point for the Light Blues at the Energy Check at Firhill Stadium.

The Jags cancelled out Alfredo Morelos’ early strike via Blair Spittal and Chris Erskine but they couldn’t hold on for a crucial Premiership win.

Storey will have to watch from the stands tomorrow night as the teams do battle again but the striker reckons Thistle can go one better second time around.

He said: “The crowd got behind us and they liked the battling performance. There’s no fear from us.

“One of the attractions for me coming here was how well Thistle pass the ball. They have good technical players and all these good performances will carry into Tuesday.

“Anything can happen in Cup games. The team are only one game away from a Hampden semi-final and there’s no reason why we can’t win.

“You never know what can happen elsewhere. Inverness won the Scottish Cup the year before I joined and were a really good team – an under-rated team with John Hughes in charge.

“Hopefully we can go under the radar and do well in the Cup.”

Thistle had victory in their sights after two goals in ten minutes after the interval but Erskine’s red card for a lunge on Morelos gave Rangers hope.

Dorrans curled home an equaliser for Pedro Caixinha’s side but the hosts stood firm to earn only their second point this term.

The pressure is all on Rangers heading into the cup clash tomorrow night and Storey knows they will have to produce a performance if they are to reach the last four.

He said: “I think Rangers were really good on the ball. We need to look at this match again and see what we can do better.

“We have to be careful with the final pass and then maybe we could see the game out.

“Unfortunately I can’t play on Tuesday because I’m cup-tied and I’m disappointed with that as I enjoyed this game.

“There’s no reason why we can’t beat them after the confidence taken from this draw.

“I thought Rangers were good on the ball. I know Ryan Jack from Aberdeen and he makes them tick. He has added a different aspect to their game and a bit of quality.

“Dorrans too scored a great goal. But I think there are weaknesses as there are with any team even if they keep the ball and use it well.

“We could have coped with their goals better but they have improved from last year.”
