Late City blow is a sickener for Chap

- By MEL CAMERON

CLYDE boss Jim Chapman accused his players of ‘naivete’ after Edinburgh City snatched a win with a 94th-minute strike.

Former Celtic hitman Craig Beattie clinched a 3-2 victory at Broadwood with a last-gasp header to leave Chapman gutted.

The Bully Wee went into the game on a high after last week’s win over League two pacesetters Stirling Albion.

And Chapman warned he won’t accept the inconsistency that has blighted his team’s performances so far this season.

He said: “Our ball retention was poor and our decision making was poor compared to last week.

“I am going to use the word naive. I have to challenge the players to find that consistency and guard against complacency.

“Again, there have been three strikes on goals and we’ve lost three goals.”

Clyde had fought back to level the game after first going in front thanks to an 11th-minute Max Wright opener.

But two goals from Abdelkarim Belmokhtar put City in the box seat before David Goodwillie equalised for Clyde three minutes from the end.

But there was late drama when Clyde’s Andy Munro was dismissed for a challenge on Gavin Malin.

And from the resulting free-kick veteran striker Beattie nodded past Currie to win it.

Chapman was critical of the red-card decision but admitted his team had pressed the self-destruct button with woeful late defending.

He said: “I wasn’t happy about the sending off. David Goodwillie was battered all game but no action was taken.

“And then Andy goes in with one tackle and is sent off.”

Meanwhile, in League One, Albion Rovers and Queen’s Park suffered heavy drubbings.

Rovers crashed 4-0 at home to Stranraer while the Spiders were on the wrong end of a 5-0 thrashing against ruthless league leaders Raith Rovers.
