Otago Lane blocked off once more

-

A ROW over concrete bollards in a busy West End lane has been reignited.

The blocks were initially installed on Otago Lane last weekend, causing concern to residents who believe they restrict vehicle access to residents, emergency services and cleansing vehicles.

They were briefly removed on Sunday night before being reinstalled on Monday by DPMG landscaping services.

Otago Lane Community Association has been campaigning to protect the lane from developers since planning permission was granted in 2012.

Otago Lane Developments Ltd, owned by Hugh Scott, put forward plans to build four townhouses and 45 flats on the site. Residents have since claimed that the company has used ‘bullying’ behaviour towards them, including forcibly removing their cars in order to install the concrete barriers.

It was also alleged that they removed further parts of the veranda to the rear of Tchai-Ovna (part of the former community garden). A DPMG landscaping site manager claimed that the group would be given six parking spaces, a move which was welcomed by the Otago Lane community.

A spokesman said: “The Otago Lane community and its fan club of several thousand sincerely hope that it can continue to collaborate with Hugh Scott and his team, and perhaps even extend the hand of friendship with invitations to community events.”
