Athletes pitch in to give provost pendant
ATHLETES from Team Lanarkshire visited the Civic Centre in Motherwell to present Provost Jean Jones with a special pendant to thank both her and council staff for the successful hosting of this summer’s British Transplant Games.
The team won medals in archery, swimming, javelin, long jump, 100m, 200m, darts, ten pin bowling, fishing, shot-putt, discus, mini marathon, basketball and took part in the donor run.
Karen Casey, Team Lanarkshire manager, said: “The games were a huge success and I know people from all over the UK who were hugely impressed with the professional way in which they were organised.
“It was the first time that a team from Lanarkshire had entered the games and we’re already looking forward to taking part in next year’s British Transplant Games, which are being held in Birmingham.
“We were delighted to present the provost with our pendant and honoured that she was able to meet some of our medal winners.”
Ms Jones added: “It was great to welcome members of Team Lanarkshire to congratulate them on their achievements – their suc- cess made the games all the more special and it was wonderful to hear their stories and how much they’d all enjoyed taking part.”
Team Lanarkshire is fundraising for next year’s Games with a musical event planned on the November 11 at club 100 in Motherwell.
