Dopeusercaught by scent in his car
A BUNGLING dope user was caught with £1700 of cannabis after cops smelled it in his car.
Lewis Cruickshank was collared when two patrol officers noticed an “overwhelming smell” of cannabis coming from the vehicle.
The 23-year-old was stopped on April 21 at the junction of Nitshill Road and Peat Road where police noticed him looking anxious.
Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that around 7.25pm two police officers clocked Cruickshank – and the smell – and searched his car
hey found 500g of cannabis, worth £1700, hidden in the spare tyre well in the boot of the car.
A search of his home address, where he lives with his widowed dad, revealed £1300 in mixed notes.
Cruickshank’s defence lawyer told Glasgow Sheriff Court Cruickshank had been raised by his father after his mother died when he was 13.
He has been in employment since he was 17 and has used cannabis for the past few years.
Sheriff Lindsay Wood told Cruickshank, of Lochlea Road, Newlands, to stand and asked him: “What possessed you to do this?”
Cruickshank replied: “I know I was doing wrong but as soon as I did it I knew it was way beyond what I should have done.
“This isn’t meant to be and I was in a bad place and doing wrong but I’m not a bad person at all.
“I’m really, really trying to stop smoking.”
Sheriff Wood said: “It is not doing your brain any good.
“It is fogging your brain, your thinking becomes wonky.”
The sheriff sentenced Cruickshank to wear a tag for four months, keeping him at home from 9.30pm to 6am.
He was also slapped with a Community Payback Order with 120 hours of unpaid work to be completed within six months.
Sheriff Wood added: “That will be the end of the matter and you will move on with your life.”
