Local heroes prepare to raise the roof at Champs
KIND-hearted residents of the North West are preparing to raise the roof at our Community Champions awards.
Tomorrow night will see local heroes from Partick, Possilpark, Maryhill, Anderston and beyond praised for going above and beyond to help their community.
They are set for a night of glitz, glamour and fabulous entertainment at the Maryhill Community Central Hall.
The area’s best community heroes are nominated across eight different awards – team, individual, public services, uniformed services, senior, young, health and wellbeing and sports awards.
Among the nominees are Knightswood Secondary school, Drumchapel Foodbank, Maryhill Integration Network, Anderston Youth Cafe and the Townhead Friendship Club.
Dance NRG, an impressive community dance troupe from Penilee, will be proving the entertainment, with the night hosted by David Farrell, aka DJ Romeo.
Mandy McHarg, who runs DanceNRG, said: “Being a community class ourselves we are super-excited and chuffed to be able to share our talented dancers skills in a night celebrating our peers and fellow community achievements – coming together and being as one for an evening of fun and awards.
“For us DanceNRG is about high level technical dance education and creating friendships that will be carried through life.
“We believe everyone has the right to be treated equal regardless of social or financial background and the dance school is the perfect place to achieve that.”
Three dancers i n the younger section will be joining a group of 10 older dancers to put on the show for our awards.
They have been preparing over the last month for the dazzling display, set to feature jazz, disco and street dance moves.
Mandy added: “Our dance school style is fun and lively and hopefully the dances we have chosen from our repertoire are enjoyable and crowd pleasing and that we have something to suit everyone.”
