Cops probe ‘deliberate’ blaze at garage

-

A GARAGE in Rutherglen was set on fire deliberately, prompting a major response from the emergency services.

Cops are now investigating the blaze at the garage in Rutherglen’s Farmeloan Road which happened at around 10.50pm on Tuesday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, and the fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

No-one was in the premises at the time of the incident.

A number of cars were also at the site, however, the damage caused by the fire appears to be limited to the building premises.

Detectives say that initial enquiries have indicated that the fire was started deliberately.

Officers are now gathering CCTV footage from in and around the area for any information which could as- sist their enquiries.

Detective Constable Neil Dooher said: “We know the fire was set deliberately and from our initial enquiries we are aware that a small, dark-coloured car was seen leaving the location around the time of the incident.

“We are keen to speak to the driver and occupants of that vehicle.

“I am also appealing to any members of the public or other motorists who were in the area at the time, who may have noticed something which seemed a little odd at the time to get in touch with us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact CID officers at Cambuslang Police Station via 101 and quote incident number 4043 of Tuesday 3 October 2017.
