Halliday: No rush on Ibrox future...
ANDY HALLIDAY won’t consider his future with Gabala until the end of the campaign in Azerbaijan.
The midfielder was one of a host of players that boss Pedro Caixinha allowed to leave during the summer as part of his Ibrox clear-out.
But he still has just under three years left on his Rangers deal after agreeing fresh terms with the club last January.
Halliday fell out of favour with Caixinha as he struggled for game time during the closing weeks of last season.
And he is determined to make the most of his time at the Gabala City Stadium as he looks to catch the eye for the Azerbaijan Premier League title hopefuls.
Halliday said: “At the moment, two things are important for me – to play every week and to help my team win games.
“As to my future, I will talk with the leadership of Gabala at the end of the season. We are third in the league at the moment and we want to get higher. We have some very good players.
“When you play with players as good as that, you do not have any problems in terms of adaptation. Every day I’m adapting more out here.
“In Azerbaijan, the tempo of the game is very quick. At Gabala, we are getting better I think as the season progresses.
“Our manager, Roman Hryhorchuk is good for me. In many ways, we are similar in character. We both have a will to win.
“The only disappointing aspect about football in Azerbaijan is that it is watched by very few fans.
“I think we should look into that. The more fans who come to the game, the better it is for football and the more benefits it would bring.
“Having said that, the Gabala fans are very dedicated supporters.”
