Sorry, bro: Jay skips LA to face England...

- By MARK WALKER

SCOTLAND UNDER-21s keeper Ryan Fulton missed his own brother’s wedding in Los Angeles to play for Scot Gemmill’s side in their Euro 2019 double-header.

And he’s hoping watching Hamilton Accies manager Martin Canning was impressed with his outstanding display against England.

The young Scots face Latvia tomorrow in Liepaja after they were outclassed by England on Friday in a 3-1 defeat in Middlesbrough.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Fulton helped keep the scoreline semirespectable with a string of top saves. His club boss Canning was at the Riverside Stadium to watch the 21-year-old and Fulton has hardly featured for Accies this season after his summer move from Anfield.

And so desperate was the keeper to get some first team action and keep his place with the Scotland Under-21s that he was prepared to snub his brother’s nuptials in favour of starting for the young Scots.

Fulton said: “I didn’t have any family at the game because they were all in LA for my brother Anthony’s wedding, which I missed. He’s been over there for five years working as a football coach. It was a big do – all the family were going.

“Normally they’d be the ones travelling all over to watch me play – especially my parents – but I think I can let them off this time. I’ve known for a while that there would be a clash with the dates, but I was really keen to be involved with the Scotland squad.

“It’s an honour every time I’m involved. This is the priority and it comes first. I wasn’t his best man so I’m not in too much trouble. The wedding was last Sunday, when we all met up with the squad, but I FaceTimed in and was able to watch all the videos back so I still felt involved. I’ll just need to edit myself into a few pictures!

“It was a big thing to play and an honour to play, it was great for the lads to come up against a side like that. You see the quality they have and they showed that.”
