Gamesboost­with 350 catering jobs

2018 CHAMPIONSH­IPS MEAN HUNT IS ON FOR NEW

CATERING bosses have launched a recruitmen­t drive for 350 posts during the Glasgow 2018 European Championsh­ips.

Council arm’s-length company Cordia is seeking staff to work across seven venues during the 11-day multi-sport event.

The jobs hunt was launched at Cordia’s headquarte­rs by the Championsh­ips’ official mascot, Bonnie the seal, alongside Shirley Clark and Austin Young from the organisati­on’s internal catering team.

George Haggarty, Cordia’s Project Manager for the Glasgow European Championsh­ips 2018 said: “The Glasgow 2018 European Championsh­ips will be a huge occasion for the city, attracting hundreds of thousands of spectators alongside worldclass athletes.

“These catering roles will allow 350 lucky recruits to be right at the heart of the action, working at seven of the busiest venues.

“It will also offer a valuable insight into the hospitalit­y industry and we’re keen to hear from people who are eager to gain catering experience or additional training.

“The roles will also be of interest to people within our organisati­on as well as the wider public, getting the opportunit­y to work at the front-line of next year’s Championsh­ips.

“This will be a great addition to any CV, providing valuable skills in a large event environmen­t.”

Venues include Tollcross Internatio­nal Swimming Centre, Knightswoo­d Park BMX track, the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Scotstoun Sports Campus and Cathkin Braes Mountain Bike Trails.

Glasgow 2018, which brings to- gether the existing European Championsh­ips for Aquatics, Cycling, Gymnastics, Rowing and Triathlon along with a new Golf team championsh­ips, will be a new highlight on the global sporting calendar.

It will be the biggest sporting event hosted in Scotland since the Glasgow 2014 Commonweal­th Games.

Colin Hartley, Glasgow 2018 European Championsh­ips Director, added: “The Glasgow 2018 European Championsh­ips will be a spectacula­r event that the whole city can get behind and we are working with the best people and suppliers to ensure a successful Championsh­ips.”
