Lewis out to cause trouble in Paradise

DUNDEE midfielder Lewis Spence is relishing a first trip to Celtic Park and is quietly confident of his side’s chances.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a run of games in the centre of the park for Dee which has coincided with an upturn in form, and he sees no reason why that cannot continue against Celtic today.

Brendan Rodgers’ side pose a daunting prospect for Dundee and are currently in the midst of a 58-game unbeaten domestic run.

But Spence is relishing the chance to cause an upset despite suffering a 4-0 defeat the last time the two sides met.

“I’ve never even been there or played there, so I’m really looking forward to it,” he said. “There will be about 58,000 plus there, so that’s what you relish; playing the best teams in the best stadiums and that is probably Celtic Park right now.

“There is no fear going there, we are underdogs, nobody expects us to take away anything, so why should we go there and sit back?

“We need to have a go at them. Most teams sit back and bring on that pressure, but its very hard to keep that up.

“You need to give them a bit back and catch them on a bad day and be at your best to beat them.”

He added: “It will be a tough ask, it’s some record they have at the moment but records are there to be broken.”

Spence’s signing went under the radar in the summer, joining on a one-year deal after making a handful of appearances for Brechin and Dunfermline last season in the lower leagues.

However he is confident he is proving himself capable of mixing it with the best.

“I believe in my own ability,” he said. “I believe I’m just as good as most people in this league.

“I’m loving playing against every centre-mid and every other team, and I love playing against Celtic, Rangers and even Partick Thistle, but I’ve not played them yet.

“I’m playing teams I’ve never played after being in the lower leagues, but I’m just enjoying it and have no fear.”
