Campbell can be the real deal for Robbo

- By GRAEME McGARRY

MOTHERWELL manager Stephen Robinson has challenged midfielder Allan Campbell to maintain his high standards after he sealed a new four-year deal at the club yesterday.

The 19-year-old has made eight appearances so far for the Steelmen this season.

And his impressive form led to him earning his first call-up for Scotland under-21s, playing in both games of the England and Latvia double-header.

Campbell is making a name for himself as one of the most exciting young players in the country with his energy and tough tackling in the middle of the park, keeping the experienced Gael Bigirimana on the bench of late.

And Robinson has urged his rising star to avoid letting his performance levels drop from the high benchmark he has set himself.

“We have been delighted with Allan’s progress and his new and improved deal is very much a reward for his hard work, dedication and excellent performances,” Robinson told the Motherwell website.

“Allan also knows that he must keep his performances at a level and that he has several extremely talented players desperate for his shirt.

“That’s the type of environment we’ve created here, so the onus is very much on him to continue to play as he has.”

The player himself admitted that even he has been surprised by his rapid rise..

“It’s been a great few weeks for me,” Campbell said.

“My aim was to firstly get into the Motherwell team and everything else has been a bonus, really.

“I owe a lot to the manager, he’s given me a chance and I really appreciate that and I want to play well for him and keep proving myself.”
