Holt: Pena has plenty more in his locker

- By CHRIS JACK

JASON HOLT was delighted to see midfield partner Carlos Pena double his goal tally with a brace against St Johnstone.

The Mexican netted his third and fourth strikes for Rangers before Graham Dorrans completed the scoring at McDiarmid Park.

Pena has come under fire inside and outside of Ibrox so far this season as he has struggled to make an impact following his summer switch from Chivas Guadalajara.

But Holt reckons there is plenty more to come from the 27-year-old after a sluggish start to his career in Scotland.

Holt said: “He has done great, and on [Friday] he scored another couple of goals so I am delighted for him. He is working extremely hard in training and it is good when the results like that pay off.

“He is like the rest of us and working extremely hard. The togetherness – we are all in it together and we work hard as a unit. I am delighted for him to get his rewards.

“I hope [he can hit double figures]. He gets in great positions on the park and he got his two goals, but he was in there sniffing about another couple of chances so I am sure he will go on to score many more.”

The performance of Pena was one of several positives for boss Pedro Caixinha to take as Rangers recorded successive Premiership wins.

It was an accomplished showing from the Light Blues and midfielder Holt was pleased to pass a tricky test against Tommy Wright’s side.

He said: “It was a good result and we knew when we came here it was going to be a difficult game. We went into it confident and got the three points.

“I think you could see that we were working extremely hard for one another. I think that shows in the goals that we scored and the way we defended as a team and attacked as a team.”
