Steve thinks his side deserved it

- By CHRIS JACK

STEVE CLARKE reckons Kilmarnock were well worthy of their point as they left it late to deny Rangers.

The new Rugby Park boss marked his debut with a share of the spoils at Ibrox as Chris Burke cancelled out Jason Holt’s first-half opener.

Keeper Jamie MacDonald saved a Daniel Candeias penalty in injury time before Killie broke and Burke stunned the home crowd on his return to Ibrox.

Boss Clarke was pleased with the efforts of his side as they moved off the foot of the Premiership standings.

He said: “I just thought it was nice to be back to be honest! Back involved again and back with those feelings on the touchline that only a football manager can get.

“I was pleased with the team and we thoroughly deserved the point. It would have been very difficult to go in and speak to the players if we hadn’t got anything.

“The last five minutes was a bit crazy but we capitalised when there was a bit of turmoil.

“We kept our focus and Jamie redeemed himself then we broke quickly and got the equaliser we deserved.”

It was a frantic finale to the action at Ibrox as Ryan Jack was sent off as Candeias waited to take the spot-kick following a foul on Eduardo Herrera.

The Gers midfielder went head-to-head with Broadfoot and pushed the former Ibrox defender to the ground.

Jack initially received a yellow card for his part in the melee but referee Alan Muir then went back to his pocket and flashed a red.

Clarke said: “It looked like he moved his head towards Kirk. If that is the case then it is a red.”
