Ross’ woe as pivotal miss costs Jambos
ROSS CALLACHAN admits he could have changed Hearts’ fortunes for the better on Saturday if he had doubled their lead against Rangers.
The Jambos went 1-0 up at BT Murrayfield through Kyle Lafferty’s stunning free-kick midway through the first half.
But Callachan spurned a glorious chance just seconds later as he failed to beat keeper Wes Foderingham when through on goal.
The miss proved costly for Craig Levein’s side as Kenny Miller hit a double and Josh Windass rounded off a 3-1 win for the Gers.
And Callachan was disappointed Hearts couldn’t get back on track following their midweek derby defeat to Hibernian.
He said: “We had a chance to bounce back today. The first 60 minutes were good. We gave ourselves a really good chance. But going 2-1 down gets them back into the game.
“I think the change didn’t help us. When Jamie Walker went off we had to change our shape. The gaffer had to do it.
“He didn’t have a choice. But it didn’t really work. It is disappointing.
“There are good things we can take from that game against a good Rangers side who were lifted by Kenny Miller coming back in.
“We need to look towards Killie next week and trying to right things we did wrong even though there are a lot of positives.
“I will not have sleepless nights about it, but I am disappointed. You are always disappointed when you have a chance and you don’t score.
“But you need to make the goalie work and I did. But if I score and we go 2-0 up it’s a different game.
“I just need to keep working on my left foot. I am confident that if that had been on my right foot it is probably a goal.
“I just need to keep getting better personally.”
