Armed robber escapes with cash

-

A BOLD robber armed with a knife grabbed cash from a till during a raid.

The hooded thug made off with a three-figure sum following the robbery in Hamilton yesterday.

He entered McColl’s Store in Fleming Way at around 7.15pm before he brandished a knife at a male member of staff and grabbed money from the cash register.

The 23-year-old victim was not injured in the incident but has been left badly shaken by the ordeal.

The suspect is around 5ft 7in, and he was wearing a dark coloured hooded Parka jacket, trimmed with light coloured fur, black jeans, and black trainers with a white sole.

He had the hood up and was wearing a white baseball cap.

Officers are carrying out door-to-door inquiries and will be checking CCTV for any additional investigative information.

Detective Sergeant Martin McKendrick said: “I’m appealing to people who may have been in the area around the time of the incident to contact us.

“It may be that the suspect was loitering outside the shop before committing the crime or someone could have seen him run off from the shop.

“At the time, this may not have seemed unusual or suspicious but in light of a local shop being targeted in a robbery, your information could prove vital.”

Anyone with information is asked to call CID officers at Cambuslang Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 3644 of 1 November 2017.
