Big guns charge through

THE weekend Scottish Junior Cup contests saw Glenafton, Petershill and Wishaw secure their places in tomorrow’s Third Round draw.

Experience­d striker Mick McCann bagged a hat-trick to go along with Ryan McChesney and Dale Moore counters as holders Glenafton ran out 5-1 winners over Dalry Thistle.

A Liam Finnigan brace put Petershill 2-0 up and a further score from Jason Hardie clinched qualificat­ion while Wishaw also saw off Arniston Rangers 3-2 through goals from Vinnie McGuire(2) and Ross McGeachie.

Kilbirnie were in for a test by high flying Penicuik Athletic, who took the lead through Lumbert Kateleza only for centreback Mick O’Byrne to level. Aaron Somerville restored the visitors’ advantage but another equaliser, this time from James Finlay, earned a 2-2 draw and replay.

Meanwhile, i n the top of the Super Premier Division clash between Auchinleck Talbot and Beith at Beechwood Park where the visitors led 2-0 through Thomas Collins and Richie Burke going into the closing stages.

But playing with 10 men from early in the second half took its toll and Graham Wilson pulled a goal back before Kyle Faulds levelled.

Elsewhere, Petershill were put to the sword 4-0 by Lang, while Benburb’s 1-0 win over Glasgow Perthshire kept Paul Lovering’s men six points clear atop the Central First Division. Rossvale’s 2-1 win over Neilston kept them in the hunt while St Roch’s remain in third place on the back of an astonishin­g comeback draw from 3-0 down at home to Yoker Athletic.
