A MAN who thumped a PC after challenging the police to fight has been caged for his violent behaviour.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, Gavin Morrell admitted acting in an aggressive manner in Hutton Drive on October 15.

The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to shouting and swearing at coppers, challenging them to fight, punching a male constable and struggling with four PCs in an effort to resist arrest.

He was also charged with having a glass bottle in a public place without a reasonable excuse, and using said bottle to damage a police car’s wing mirror as well as throwing it at one of the officers.

The fiscal depute told the court that during an investigation the police came across Morrell, who goaded: “F***ing come on then.”

The constables activated an emergency button. Before backup arrived, Morrell continued to challenge the police to a fight and picked up a glass bottle to brandish at the cops.

During the altercation, Morrell used the bottle to damage a police vehicle’s wing mirror.

He then threw the bottle at one of the constables before punching him. He continued to throw punches as the other PCs got involved.

Morrell struggled violently during his arrest. One constable suffered a sore left wrist, while another ended up with bruising on his the knee. Morrell, of Kilmaurs Street, was jailed for 140 days.
