SCALES OF JUSTICE Drink-driver thought booze had been spiked

-

A GOVAN man who got behind the wheel while two-times over the limit thought his drink had been spiked.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, Vikramjeet Sohal pleaded guilty to driving along the city’s Crossloan Road on August 17, last year, with 44 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit being 22mg.

The fiscal depute told the court that police received a tip-off at around 10.20pm that the accused was driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

The 35-year-old was pulled over and thereafter failed the roadside breath test. In defence it was noted that the report did not make for good reading.

The accused did not feel that he had consumed that much alcohol and believed that his drink had been spiked.

Despite accepting the high reading, Sohal did not accept that he intentionally set out to drink drive.

The sheriff highlighted that Sohal had a history of drink driving and voiced his concern at his “level of denial”.

Sohal, of Elderpark Grove, was sentenced to a Community Payback Order with supervision for one year to help promote his rehabilitation.

He was also handed 80 hours of unpaid work and was disqualified from driving for three years. If the accused participates in the Drink Drive Rehabilitation Course, his ban will reduce by six months.
