Man broke bail and then hid to avoid paying taxi
A DRUMCHAPEL man who disappeared without paying a taxi fare has been ordered to attend alcohol counselling.
At Glasgow Sheriff Court, John Hamilton admitted breaking the law a number of times on September 14.
The fiscal depute told the court that it was just after midnight when the accused, who was drunk, began to act in an aggressive manner towards another man at their home address in Kinfauns Drive.
The man asked Hamilton to leave the flat, however he remained in the street.
At around 12.45am, another witness was wakened by a loud bang.
The man went to Hamilton’s house, to which the complainer explained that he had put Hamilton out due to his drunken behaviour.
Hamilton then began to shout, boot and bang on the door.
The two men inside had to brace the door in fear it would get kicked in.
Hamilton then threatened: “I’m going to put the window in.”
When the police arrived, he was found in a nearby close.
The 38-year-old also pleaded guilty to hailing a taxi in Queen Street later on that day to take him back home.
However, the accused had been liberated by the sheriff court on the condition that he did not enter Kinfauns Drive.
As well as breaking bail, Hamilton also disappeared without paying the £28.35 taxi fare.
The accused told the driver he would go inside for the cash, but he never returned.
In defence it was claimed that Hamilton had time to address his issues while on remand.
Now out on bail and accepting that alcohol plays a large role in his offending behaviour, he hopes to return home with a new purpose.
The court was told that the complainer would take him back shortterm if he behaves himself.
Hamilton was sentenced to a Community Payback Order with supervision for 18 months and 80 hours of unpaid work to be completed within three months.
He was also handed a conduct requirement to attend alcohol counselling as directed by his supervisor.
