SCALES OF JUSTICE Drunk bit police officer who tried to help him

- By COURT REPORTER

A DRUNK man bit a police officer on the body after he had taken him to hospital for treatment.

Mohammad Ahmed was picked up by cops are being spotted in the street, stumbling around.

After noticing that he had a graze to his head, they decided to take the 36-year-old Glasgow’s Royal Infirmary on June 23, 2015.

He became aggressive towards the police officers trying to help him and directed explicit language towards them on the journey to the hospital.

Ahmed, of no fixed address, then focused his attention on one male officer who he bit on the body.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard how he has very little recollection of the events that unfolded as he had consumed a significant amount of alcohol.

His solicitor added that his client accepts full responsibility for his behaviour and is extremely “disappointed and embarrassed”.

The sentencing Sheriff described the incident as a “very serious matter” and added: “You behaved this way towards police officers who were doing their duty and trying to help you.

“You also caused upset in the hospital where other people were seeking treatment. This is not acceptable behaviour but I accept that you are very remorseful about it.”

Ahmed was ordered to undergo 150 hours of unpaid work in a period of four months.
