KILLED BY SINGLE STAB TO HEART
ACOURT has heard how a young man died from a single stab wound to the heart.
Four men are on trial at the High Court in Glasgow accused of the murder of Gary Weir, 24, who died after being stabbed on Old Shettleston Road last year.
A PATHOLOGIST told a murder trial that 24-year-old Gary Weir died from a single stab wound to the heart.
Dr Marjorie Turner was giving evidence at the trial of Michael Gentles, 21, John Kelly, 22, Adam Williams, 21, and John Graham, 21, all from Glasgow, who deny murdering Mr Weir, by stabbing him with a knife on Old Shettleston Road on August 7, last year.
They also deny attempting to murder David Shannon, James Phinn and Gary Phinn by stabbing them.
Dr Turner told the High Court in Glasgow that a sharp weapon cut through Mr Weir’s lung and his heart causing massive bleeding.
Mr Weir also suffered an injury to the palm of his right hand and Dr Turner said: “It is typical of a defensive i njury caused by grabbing the tip of a knife.”
Earlier, prosecutor Bill McVicar withdrew the charge of murder and three charges of attempted murder against 21-year-old Liam Stead, from Glasgow.
He had denied all the charges against him.
Giving evidence, roughcaster Mr Stead told the jury that “a big fight” started after a man complained about a flicked cigarette. He said he was with a group that had been in the nearby Marquis pub and the other group had come from from a birthday party at the social club.
Initially the atmosphere was friendly, but then a disturbance broke out.
Mr McVicar asked: “Did you see anyone in possession of a knife or getting rid of a knife?”
Mr Stead replied: “No, I never saw anything.”
Mr Stead told the jury that he did not know Mr Weir had died until the following day when he saw comments on Facebook.
He was asked if he had visited John Kelly’ s aunt and told her ‘it was Mickey that done it’ and replied: “No, I wouldn’t have said that because I didn’t think he done it.”
Defence QC Gordon Jackson, representing Mr Kelly, asked Mr Stead: “Did you hear Mr Gentles call his mother that night and say ‘you’ll need to come and get us. I’ve stabbed a couple of people.’”
The witness replied that he did not.
The trial before judge Lord Mulholland continues.
