Praise for innovative student homes
GLASGOW MSP James Dornan has visited student accommodation in the West End to discover its i mpact on the local community.
The Nationalist politician was given a tour of the property in Kelvinhaugh Street to discuss how it is fitting into the area.
The accommodation, which has beds for almost 600 students, cost £45million and includes a festival space, cinema room, meeting hub, library, cafe, fully-staffed gym, a multisport all-weather pitch and a helter-skelter ride.
Mr Dornan said: “I am impressed by the quality of the student accommodation provided at True Glasgow West End, both the facilities and the holistic care the providers offer its guests.
“It is a welcome addition to the student accommodation landscape in Glasgow and it was interesting to learn about the innovative construction methods used to deliver it quickly and sustainably.
“This project has proven positive for Glasgow, from the number of jobs created and £40m plus investment into our city, to the ongoing positive effect students have on the local area’s economy.
“It was heartwarming to see students coming and going from the complex and to speak to them about their favourite bars, shops and eateries in the area.”
True operates a loyalty card to encourage students to explore the local area and patronise its bars, shops and eateries.
The company plans to start work on a second site at New City Road early next year which will be ready in September 2019.
