Residents left scared by late night shooting

- By NIALL CHRISTIE

A LATE night shooting near Braehead shopping centre left residents scared and nearby roads closed.

The incident, which took place around 11.50pm on Thursday, saw two shots fired through the window of a ground floor flat on Kenley Road.

The assailant reportedly discharged his weapon towards the kitchen window before driving off from the grassy verge and speeding away.

Fortunately, the intended victim, who Police Scotland believe to have been targeted, was left unhurt.

A forensic team was on site yesterday to investigate the crime while other officers were on site to reassure and calm neighbours who heard the gunshots.

One local resident said: “My husband and I knew straight away that it was gunshots, not fireworks or anything else.

“We heard one shot, then another maybe a minute later, and then nothing more until this morning. We spoke to the police today and they assured us that, thankfully, nobody was hurt.”

Late on Friday officers were still at the scene, with the road outside the flat still closed off.

Some locals seemed distressed that a shooting like this could take place on such a quiet, residential street.

A neighbour said: “We were in our bed and did not notice until our daughter came through.

“At the school gates this morning I was speaking to other parents who live on the street and they said that their kids were up and scared in the middle of the night.

“We were expecting a visit from the police today but we haven’t heard anything, we are getting our information from each other.”

Anyone with information regarding the investigation should contact Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team on 101, quoting reference number 4029 of November 23. The police are interested in anyone who witnessed anyone acting suspiciously or driving off at speed.
