Murty: Manager search is ongoing
GRAEME MURTY expects to return to his role as Under-20s boss once he hands over the reins to the next Rangers manager.
The 43-year-old will take charge of his fifth match as interim gaffer when Aberdeen make the trip to Ibrox tonight.
And he is set to remain in the dugout for the return fixture at Pittodrie on Sunday as the search for Pedro Caixinha’s successor continues.
Murty has overseen wins against Hearts and Partick Thistle and defeats to Hamilton and Dundee in recent weeks and supporters have become frustrated at the length of time it has taken to appoint a permanent manager.
The stand-in boss is happy to pass on his experiences to the next man at the helm but is preparing to revert to his role within the Auchenhowie Academy in the coming weeks.
Murty said: “The process is ongoing. Things are happening – they are just not there yet. That’s the indication I had.
“I know where I fit in the grand scheme of things. It tends to be round the Academy side of the building.
“I’m in a job and if everything had gone smoothly for the previous manager I wouldn’t be sitting here.
“Things weren’t working and I have to do a job for an amount of time.
“I fully expect to do my job and get back with a really good group of young players who have just gone to Benfica and won 3-2.
“I’m fairly relaxed in that regard, but still a wee bit frustrated and disappointed.
“I would expect to have my opinion heard if I’m asked, but I would expect to come back to the Academy.
“If the new guy comes in and wants to talk to me about anything – fine. But I won’t second guess that.
“I will just crack on with getting ready to go back down to the Academy as and when it happens.”
