James urges side to go on long run

JAMES TAVERNIER hopes Rangers can use their win over Aberdeen as the inspiration for an improved Premiership run.

The right-back scored either side of Carlos Pena’s strike to help Graeme Murty’s side to a comfortable 3-0 victory at Ibrox.

It was the best performance of the campaign from the Light Blues as they bounced back from the back-to-back defeats to Hamilton and Dundee.

Interim boss Murty switched his formation as Bruno Alves returned to the side, Ross McCrorie stepped into midfield and Josh Windass partnered Kenny Miller in attack.

And he was rewarded with a fine showing from his side on the eve of the Annual General Meeting in Glasgow.

Rangers make the trip to Pittodrie on Sunday aiming to draw level with the Dons and Tavernier is pleased to be back to winning ways.

He said: “We are obviously mindful of winning every game and Aberdeen, coming here after last season, we didn’t want any upsets.

“It does lift a massive pressure from the meeting but we have to take this onto Sunday and all the games throughout the season.

“We can’t put in a performance like this and then go into other games and not put in that performance. We have got to continue working hard.

“We are definitely delighted with the victory. After two poor performances and defeats, I am really proud of the boys.

“We set ourselves up in a good formation and we knew the game plan. Josh and Kenny led the line really well and we worked well as a team.

“There was massive pressure coming into this game after two defeats. The fans were expecting a reaction at home and we produced that.

“The group of lads we have don’t want to lose games. We are all winners in that dressing room. The last two performances weren’t good enough, but we set ourselves up really well here.”
