Miller call for Gers to resolve Derek talk

- By CHRIS JACK

ABERDEEN legend Willie Miller has urged the Rangers board to make a move for Derek McInnes or end speculation over a return to Ibrox.

The Dons boss has emerged as the chosen candidate to replace Pedro Caixinha and a deal could be done in the coming days.

It is six weeks since Rangers sacked the Portuguese and started their search for a new manager and McInnes has been repeatedly linked with the position.

Now Pittodrie hero Miller insists it is time for action one way or another to allow Aberdeen to focus on matters on the field rather than the future of their boss.

He said: “Rangers should either move for Derek McInnes this week or make a statement he is not on their shortlist.

“It needs to be cleared up as soon as possible for the benefit of Aberdeen, McInnes and Scottish football.

“It is a ridiculous amount of speculation the Dons manager has had to work under and his players have had to cope with.

“Speculation is not going away and is coming more forcefully than ever.

“I thought it would have died when McInnes made the statement to quash the rumours about Rangers, but it is back with a vengeance.

“The latest within Ibrox is that there will be some news coming and at least one way or another it will finally end it.

“If McInnes were to leave it would be a real blow as he has done a fantastic job at Pittodrie. He has put together a squad of players that has been successful.

“However McInnes is an ambitious, young manager and when you do well you attract other clubs.”
