Graeme has side playing in tune

WILLIE HENDERSON reckons Rangers are in safe hands with interim boss Graeme Murty at the helm.

The 43-year-old led the Light Blues to a third successive Premiership win on Saturday as he followed the triumphs over Aberdeen with a 2-1 success against Ross County.

And Ibrox legend Henderson hopes Murty can continue to go from strength to strength in the Gers dugout.

He said: “I’ve been very impressed. He’s a young boy and I’m quite sure it’s an experience he’s had that he probably didn’t realise would come so quickly in his career.

“He’s been under a lot of pressure, like anybody would be when put in the position he’s in just now.

“He’s had two games against Aberdeen. Two games against Derek McInnes and his tactics have been spot-on twice.

“I think he’s done brilliant under the circumstances. It might surprise us where it all ends.

“The club have said they’ll give him until the end of the year. We’ll see if he can follow up what he’s doing just now.”

Murty will remain in charge until at least the turn of the year after Derek McInnes rejected the chance to replace Pedro Caixinha as boss.

It has been another tumultuous period for the Gers and Henderson said: “I’m stuck for words. Obviously it’s a difficult time for the club but obviously I hope that somewhere down the line it can be sorted out.

“Sometimes in life, things happen and sometimes things are not meant to be, so the club will just have to move on and get something else sorted out.”

Chairman Dave King expressed fears last month that supporters could start to ‘drift away’ from Ibrox if they didn’t see success on the park sooner rather than later.

More than 48,000 turned out for the County clash and Henderson said: “He probably doesn’t know the fans then, does he? I don’t think that will happen.

“They’ve been through a tough time for the last few years and I hope it eventually gets better.”
