Livvy ace Danny’s the boy for Saints

- By IAIN COLLIN

LIVINGSTON striker Danny Mullen is set to sign a permanent deal with St Mirren next month after joining the Buddies on an emergency loan.

Livingston have revealed a deal is in place that will see them pocket a five-figure sum for the 22-year-old when the January transfer window opens.

Mullen, who spent time on trial with English Championship side Cardiff City in the summer, had told the Lions he was intent on leaving the club at the end of his current deal next summer.

They have opted to cash in now on a player they have brought through the ranks since 2012, when he was released by Aberdeen.

St Mirren made no mention of next month’s permanent switch, even quoting Mullen as saying he wished to “impress the manager in the short time I’m here”.

But announcing the 28-day loan, boss Jack Ross expressed his delight at capturing the pacy marksman, who he believes is destined for the ‘highest level’.

He said: “I’m surprised we were able to get a player of his quality because he’s a player I’ve been aware of since he was a teenager at Livingston and I’ve always kept an eye on his progress.

“I’ve always felt he’s a player who’d get an opportunity at the highest level in Scotland.

“I’m really pleased and delighted to bring him into the squad.”

Mullen, who could make his Buddies debut at home to Dunfermline on Saturday, has scored five times in 17 appearances for Livingston this season but has not featured for them since November 4.

He said: “I’m looking forward to getting started. I’m not just coming to make the numbers up.

“I’m coming here to get a place in the team and impress the manager in the short time I’m here, but I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead.”
