Douglas threatens to dig out Bomber...

- By NEIL CAMERON

FORMER Celtic goalkeeper Rab Douglas last night revealed his plan to “embarrass” Rangers legend John Brown at the end of his playing career.

The ex-Scotland keeper opened up about bankruptcy and the highs and lows of his long career during an interview with the BBC, while also vowing to take revenge on his former Dundee gaffer.

Brown bulleted Douglas from the Dens Park side when he was manager. And when the two latterly met face-to-face, Douglas secretly taped the conversation.

“John Brown’s had his say in the back of the papers and I’ll have my say some day,” said the 45-yearold who is still on Arbroath’s books.

When asked how the transcriptions will make Brown l ook, Douglas admits the fallout will be “slightly embarrassing for him.”

And he added: “I gave my everything for Dundee. I loved it up there, probably the football club I felt most comfy.

“He [Brown] signed Steve Simonsen. He phoned me to say, ‘just to mark your card’. I went in the next day to training, we had words. He told me to get my stuff and get to.

“I thought I at least deserved the courtesy of him pulling me in face to face and explaining.

“There’s only one winner as a manager and he won. It’s there for a book and there’s a bit more to it. He had his say, so I’ll have mine soon.”

Earlier this year, Douglas was declared bankrupt having lost a small fortune in an ill-fated film production scheme. He was hardly the only footballer caught out.

“It’s one of the worst feelings in the world,” he said. “Same as a lot of the other footballers, the film partnership turned into a disaster.

“You look at the number of professional players that have [gone] bankrupt. The only people that won out of it [were] the financial advisers. It’s been bad advice. You look how many have been sucked into it.

“It’s one of the worst feelings in the world when you’re sleeping three hours a night worrying about things like that.

“I paid a big lump back over so many years, over six figures. It’s scary.”
