So happy to spend Xmas with my Clan

-

FOR the first time in eight years or so, I’ll get to spend Christmas with my family – and I can’t wait for it.

Both my mum and dad are over visiting and we’ve been going to different places as they get to see some of Scotland.

It’s great for them to see me as I’m an only child so it’s tough whenever we get to this time of year.

It’ll be extra special for sure and my girlfriend will be joining us so it’ll be nice for to be together.

In the last couple of years I was in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for Christmas. Before that I was in Stockton in Chicago.

Although I was in North America, I couldn’t be with my family and it’s always difficult, but we understand this is part of the job.

They’ve always been very supportive of my hockey career. It’s tough, but everyone understands.

I’d like to describe what a normal Christmas is like for me and my family, but I haven’t been home in eight years to spend it with them.

When I was home, we’d go to my great grandma’s on Christmas Eve and get to open one present.

On Christmas Day, we’d all get together with both sets of grandparents and do all the usual kind of stuff most families do, including the turkey dinner of course.

But the fact my folks are here makes it more exciting for me.

Having the Braehead Shopping Centre two minutes from my apartment is great. I’ve been able to pick up some great deals for everyone and we’ll see how that goes!

I know there are traditions in the UK about what people watch on television, but mine is to watch the World Junior Hockey Championships.

Everyone in Canada watches it too and it’s a big deal to watch the Under-20s. I usually watch anything involving sports though.

For me, it’s going to be busy with the amount of games we have coming up. This month we have 12 or so.

It’s good for my parents as they get to come and see me play and take in a few games. They enjoy seeing me play and haven’t been able to do it in the last couple of years.

This year’s different because they’re here and can come along. Although I missed the Sunday game in Cardiff through injury but hopefully I’ll be back for this weekend.

For Christmas, I haven’t made a list in terms of presents, but I get to spend it with my family and my girlfriend and that’s what I’m looking forward to most.

If that’s all I get then fair enough.
