Festive spirit at mall’s foodbank

-

SHOPPING mall staff have shown their festive spirit with a huge collection for their Christmas Foodbank appeal.

Food donations at Silverburn worth more than £2000 were this week donated by the centre to the Glasgow South-West Foodbank and the Crookston Community Group.

Staff from retailers, including Debenhams, The Entertainer and Marks & Spencer, as well as the centre’s contractors and suppliers, all answered the charitable call, with more than 35 brands and businesses donating to the appeal.

Donations resulted in food contributions filling 45 tote bags with more than 1500 cans and 200 selection boxes donated.

In addition, Silverburn also donated more than £500 worth of food to Glasgow South-West Foodbank from its community organization arm, Silverburn Cares.

David Pierotti, Silverburn’s General Manager, said: “We have had a phenomenal response to the Christmas Foodbank appeal from the staff here at Silverburn and from our suppliers and contractors.”

Claire McCunnie from the Glasgow South-West Foodbank said: “I have estimated that we have received about 4.5 tonnes of food from the Silverburn collections over the last few years.

“This has fed 2469 people this year; 1564 adults and 905 children all from Pollok.”
