Hunt for conman who duped pensioner

-

A CONMAN tricked a pensioner into handing over a two-figure sum of cash by offering to carry out gardening work.

Detectives are now hunting for the bogus caller, who struck in Kilwinning at around 4pm on Wednesday.

The bogus caller attended at a house in Irvine Road offering to carry out gardening work.

The man tricked his way into the 88-year-old lady’s home and stole a two figure sum of cash.

She was not injured but has been left badly shaken by the incident.

The man is described as white, with a local accent, around 5ft 8in and wearing dark clothing.

Officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and are ap- pealing to members of the public for information.

Detective Inspector Mick Carr said: “This man’s actions are contemptible, to target an elderly woman in her home is shameful.

“I would appeal to local residents in the area to contact us if they think they saw this man hanging around and can perhaps provide us with ad- ditional information. Also, be on the lookout for anyone who may be acting a little odd or suspicious. We will be checking CCTV images and hope to obtain further detail on the suspect which we hope will lead us to tracing him.”

Anyone with information is asked to call officers at Saltcoats Police Station via 101.
