Man threatened to stab his neighbour to death

-

A MAN who threatened to shoot and stab his neighbour to death has been warned to behave over the next six months.

George Monaghan found himself in the dock for shouting: “I’ll stab you, I’ll stab you in the face, I’ll stab you to death.”

Procurator fiscal depute Harry Findlay told Glasgow Sheriff Court that witnesses were within their home address when they heard a male voice shouting from a window above.

One witness went out onto a balcony and spotted the 36-yearold accused shouting. They went back inside, but when they returned Monaghan menaced: “My neighbour’s getting shot.”

After the building’s concierge was contacted, the accused was witnessed shouting: “I’ll stab you, I’ll stab you in the face, I’ll stab you to death.”

Monaghan pleaded guilty to committing a breach of the peace on June 8 within his home street. He admitted conducting himself in a disorderly manner by shouting, swearing and repeatedly uttering threats of violence towards his neighbours.

In defence it was explained that there had been a dispute between the neighbours for some time and complaints had been made from both parties. However, Monaghan accepted that he “overstepped the mark”.

The accused, who suffers from mental health difficulties, was identified as someone who could benefit from supervision.

Sheriff Norman Ritchie warned Monaghan: “In order to protect your neighbours, what I’m going to do is defer sentence. I expect you to behave during this time.”

Monaghan, of Charles Street, will return to court on June 7, next year.
