Murts gets transfers go-ahead

- By CHRIS JACK

GRAEME MURTY is keen to bolster his Rangers ranks next month after being given permission to bring players to Ibrox.

Murty has won six of the nine matches he has taken charge of since Pedro Caixinha was sacked in October.

And he has now put pen-to-paper on a deal that will keep him in the Light Blues hotseat until the summer.

Director of Football Mark Allen has been overseeing the recruitment process in recent weeks ahead of the January transfer window.

But Murty will now have the final say on all comings and goings as he looks to put his own mark on the Gers squad.

He said: “We have identified areas where we need support and need to bring in reinforcements.

“The recruitment group have done a really good job in identifying targets.

“However, as ever in January, you don’t get the volume of work done that you do in the summer. But we have certain key areas and conversations are ongoing.

“Now I am in the seat, they take a massively different slant.

“Previously, I was preparing a portfolio for someone else. Now I have the final decision.

“I haven’t been given a financial parameter. I have just identified targets and people who I like. Anything else is beyond my remit.

“It will either be, ‘yes we can afford him’ or ‘No we can’t’.

“I can’t look at that and I’ve not been told anything. What will be, will be. But we know the arena we are operating in.

“You have to look at it – you could bring lots and lots of players in but they would have to be productive.

“There is no point bringing players in who are just going to be squad player or aren’t’ going to play in the starting line-up. That would be my consideration.

“The squad needs reinforced and we’ve identified key areas to target.

“If we can strengthen them that will be the main impetus of the transfer window.”
