Two city pals create Tough Mudder test
TWO friends from Glasgow have created a new terrifying 30ft obstacle for Tough Mudder – and it’s been dubbed the most challenging yet.
Ross Munro and Jonny McDonald, both from Shawlands, have designed Kong Infinity which will hit courses across the UK for the 2018 season.
Kong Infinity is engineered to test even the most experienced Tough Mudders by being one of the most technically challenging obstacles on course.
Jonny described how he and Ross – both 30 – took part in their first event in 2013 and have since completed races across the UK, Europe, and America.
He added: “We always had an interest in obstacle racing as it makes running much more exciting, in terms of both the challenge and knowing that anything can happen.
“After taking part in a few races, we became interested in creating our own and when Tough Mudder launched a competition for new obstacles, we thought it would be a great opportunity to share our ideas.
“We’re over the moon our obstacle won, and can’t wait to see it across courses globally this year.”
Requiring upper body strength and agility, Kong Infinity participants start by climbing a 15ft structure to reach a barrel which has handles fixed around its circumference on a set of tracks suspended more than 20ft off the ground.
By using momentum, participants rotate the barrel along the tracks to the other side.
For the first time since its inception in 2016, Kong, the giant, 30ft obstacle in which participants swing like Tarzan, traversing from one floating ring to another, will be featured on the Tough Mudder Full course where everyone will have the opportunity to conquer the massive challenge.
Founded in 2010 with the launch of the Tough Mudder obstacle course event series, Tough Mudder Inc. has become a leading global sports, active lifestyle and media brand.
With more than three million participants, the company hosts more than 130 non-competitive and competitive events annually in 11 countries including China, Dubai, Indonesia, and Australia.
