Booth keen to get up and running after injury woe

- By STEVE NAILOR

PARTICK Thistle defender Callum Booth admits he can see light at the end of the tunnel after returning to full training following nearly five months on the sidelines.

The 26-year-old was ruled out with knee ligament damage after sustaining the injury in the August 19 defeat at St Johnstone.

Booth was one of a number of players who frequented the Firhill treatment room as Alan Archibald’s side struggled for form during the first half of the campaign.

However, the former Hibs left-back has rejoined his team-mates on the training pitch on the squad’s winter camp in Spain and is thrilled to be close to a comeback.

Booth said: “I’m delighted to be back in full training, it’s been about four months and it seems to have gone on for ages.

“It’s great to be back and a great place to be so as well, with the sun out. I can’t wait to get going.

“My knee has felt fine and I’ve trained full days over here. Everything is feeling good so hopefully that continues.

“It’s brilliant to be out in Spain, I’ve timed it well.

“The boys are getting the fitness work into them after having a week off, it’s good to be joining in and I need all the fitness work I can get.”

Jags manager Archibald, whose side take on Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua in a friendly today, also now has full-back James Penrice at his disposal following a loan stint at Livingston and Booth welcomes the challenge to claim a place in the side.

Speaking to JAGZONE, he added: “James has also come back from his loan spell at Livingston, there are now two of us so that should be good for competition going into the second half of the season.”
