CUMMINGS SET FOR GERS LOAN SWITCH

Ex-Hibee Jason jets into city as Murty eyes a triple swoop

- By CHRIS JACK and MATTHEW LINDSAY

FORMER Hibernian striker Jason Cummings arrived in Glasgow last night to complete a loan deal at Rangers, while Graeme Murty has also lined up deals for Russell Martin and Greg Docherty.

Cummngs, who moved to Nottingham Forest in the summer, is expected to play for the Ibrox club until the end of the season.

If the 22-year-old forward, who made his debut for

Scotland against the Netherlands in November, does well the move could become permanent in the summer.

Cummings signed for Forest, where former Rangers manager Mark Warburton was in charge, back in June, but he has not been a regular starter for the City Ground club. He has scored four goals in 17 appearances.

The Edinburgh-born player, who helped Hibs beat Rangers in the William Hill Scottish Cup final in 2016, scored 23 times in all competitions last term as Neil Lennon’s side won promotion.

Graeme Murty has already signed Sean Goss and Jamie Murphy on loan from Queens Park Rangers and Brighton respectively during the January transfer window. Murphy’s move will become permanent at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

Declan John, the Cardiff City left back who had been on loan at Rangers, had already agreed a move.

Murty has also been linked with Norwich City and Scotland centre half Martin and Rangers have enquired about Hamilton midfielder Docherty.

Martin has fallen down the pecking order at Norwich this season and the last of his seven appearances for the Canaries came in the 4-0 defeat to Millwall back in August.

Murty confirmed after the Florida Cup win over Corinthians on Saturday that Rangers had made an approach to Hamilton with a view to completing a deal for 21-year-old midfielder Docherty.

Swansea and Millwall are also interested but Rangers are now poised to step up their bid.
