Victim took his revengeonpub attacker with cue

-

A YOUNG man who was punched for no reason retaliated by snapping a pool cue over his attacker’s head.

Steven Larkin told witnesses that he was “standing having a p*sh” when his assailant hit him without warning.

Once out of the toilet, 24-year-old Larkin exacted his revenge by smacking the man over the head and body with a snooker cue and then throwing a chair at him.

Glasgow Sheriff Court was told that the victim – who had consumed a large quantity of alcohol – woke up in the hospital, unaware he had been assaulted.

The incident, within La Cala Bar in Meadowpark Street, took place on June 23, last year.

A witness investigated the commotion and discovered the complainer bleeding from a head injury caused by a freshly broken pool cue.

After the accused threw a chair, he told his victim: “I’m standing having a p*sh and you’re coming up to punch me.”

The defence agent claimed that Larkin, of Townmill Road, retaliated after he was hit for no reason whilst in the toilet, but accepted his behaviour was unacceptable.

Sheriff Tony Kelly told the accused that assaults similar in nature “usually attract custody”.

However, the sheriff was persuaded not to jail Larkin and instead sentenced him to a Community Payback Order with 200 hours of unpaid work to be completed within nine months.
