Ex-Bairn Flynn in the door as Saints close in on Hill

- By IAIN COLLIN

ST MIRREN have boosted their Premiership hopes with the signing of former Liverpool attacker Ryan Flynn – and are also expected to complete the capture of Celtic youngster Mark Hill.

Flynn, who is a former team-mate of Buddies skipper Stephen McGinn at Sheffield United, has joined the Championship leaders on a two-and-ahalf-year deal, whilst Hill will pen a loan agreement for the remainder of the campaign.

Manager Jack Ross was eager to strengthen the options at the heart of his side for the run-in, with McGinn and summer signing Ian McShane having been relied on all season.

And Flynn, who began his career at Anfield and left Oldham Athletic to return north, is relishing the prospect of trying to help the Paisley outfit maintain their current eight-point lead at the top of the table.

He said: “I’m just glad it is done now. I know Stephen [McGinn] really well, so I know how things have gone for the last year.

“The boys have been flying, really, and the football they are playing is really good.

“I just want to get in and help as much as I can.”

Hill, who was also wanted by League One leaders Raith Rovers, will give Ross further options in case of injuries or suspensions in the coming weeks, and the paperwork for the 19-year-old’s deal should be finalised today.

With Danny Mullen have been recruited from Livingston on a permanent deal last week and Lewis Morgan secured back on loan from Celtic after being sold to the champions, Ross is thrilled with his latest transfer dealings.

He said: “Ryan is a very good player, with a good pedigree.

“He’s had quite a similar career path to Stephen McGinn, who he knows well, and he has good quality.

“We kept it under the radar for the most part and I’m really pleased to have signed him, and hopefully we will have another in on Tuesday.”
