City shivers as blizzards cause white-out
HEAVY snowfall brought roads in and out of Glasgow to a halt as workers heeded police warnings to leave early.
Predicted snow showers caused several routes to come to a complete standstill with decreased visibility and slippery conditions.
Earlier in the day, Police Scotland advised workers to leave the city early to avoid being stuck in adverse weather.
As the ‘snow bomb’ hit, the force issued another warning to urge drivers to avoid the M77 completely after a lorry lost control and blocked the carriageway for a number of hours.
In the city, roads surrounding Byres Road and the Clyde Tunnel became extremely congested.
Glasgow City Council gritting teams worked throughout the night to clear priority roads and paths.
Conditions on the M74 remained treacherous after hundreds of drivers were left stranded on the road overnight.
One resident managed to find a silver lining to the bad weather – by setting out to making a tidy profit.
Scott Robertson, 48, said his phone has not stopped buzzing since he posted a sales ad for the white stuff on Wednesday evening.
The 48-year-old from Airdrie, South Lanarkshire, posted the hilarious ad using Facebook’s marketplace feature.
It allows users of the website to buy and sell items with people in their local area.
Scott’s ad simply reads: “£1 a bucket load . As much as you want. Pick up Scotland “
Some of the more interesting requests have included whether he ships to Australia, if he could guarantee the snow would last and whether the snow came in different colours. Others resorted to haggling over the low price.
The ad has been viewed more than 10,000 times on the social media website and Scott says he got a fresh batch of snow late on Thursday.
He joked: “I’ve had one offer of £2.5million but they backed out when I asked for cash up front.
“I only did it for a laugh. My phone has not stopped buzzing since I posted it.”
