Extra cash will help rebuild footbridge
bridge and said it would open in April this year.
Now the City Administration Committee has agreed an extra £500,000 for the redecking of Polmadie Footbridge.
The extra funding from SUSTRANS will make the footbridge accessible for disabled users and will encourage cycling and walking into Glasgow City Centre.
Councillor Anna Richardson, City Convener for Sustainability and Carbon Reduction said: “As part of the ongoing Oatlands re- generation, the reinstated bridge will provide valuable access to pedestrians and cyclist and I know that campaigners will be happy that work is due to begin in March.
“The additional funding will be used to construct a fully accessible approach ramp for the bridge with additional lighting for a safer environment for all.”
Polmadie foot bridge was closed in 2015 with residents given no information about what would happen next.
Its deck was demolished but ex- isting piers left in place to be able to reuse them should funding for repairs have been found.
The council now says the footbridge will reopen in August this year.
Labour councillor Soryia Siddique added: “This is an important project that will continue to bring our city closer together, improve connectivity and make it more attractive for people to use forms of active travel. I look forward to seeing the completed project in August of this year.”
