Mystery busker hits opera high notes

-

AN elderly busker stopped shoppers in their tracks on a cold and wet Glasgow day – as he broke out into a pitch-perfect operatic song.

The unknown man was caught on camera in the miserable, wintry weather, just off Buchanan Street.

The clip was filmed by photography student Vicki Allison who was returning from a trip to the nearby Gallery of Modern Art.

It shows a man on the ledge of Nationwide bank in Royal Bank Place. Hat on the ground, he just manages to shelter himself from the wet weather.

Speaking to the Evening Times, Vicki described the moment she heard the voice bellowing out over the city din as she was walking towards Royal Exchange Square.

The 35-year-old said: “There’s a restaurant in that area and I just though it was music being blared from their speaker. When I saw the man sitting on top of a ledge, I couldn’t believe it.

“It was a freezing day and it was snowing. People were just going about their own business but when they re- alised it wasn’t just a recording and actually coming from the man, they were stopping, some even doing a double take.

“I don’t even know who he is and haven’t ever seen him before. He had a hat on the ground in which he was collecting money.

The Barrhead mum added: “It was amazing. He definitely cheered people up on a horrible day.”
