Duffy admits his side got lucky

- By ALISON McCONNELL

MORTON manager Jim Duffy was delighted to see Morton back in contention for a play-off spot, although he conceded that while he was delighted with all three points it could have well ended in a share of the spoils with Dunfermline.

A last minute winner from Gary Oliver enabled Duffy’s side to leapfrog the East End Park side into fourth spot in the Championship and the Morton manager accepted that it was not the best performance from his side.

“We were able to enjoy our weekend but we nicked it, no doubt about that,” said Duffy. “There are times we have played well and taken nothing so we enjoyed it.

“I did think at times that it would end in a draw and if it had I don’t think we could have been too disappointed.”

Despite the growing momentum of Morton, Duffy is wary of reading too much into their recent form.

Having pushed up to fourth and within six points of second place, the Morton manager was reluctant to predict a grand finale to the campaign.

A veteran of the league, Duffy was at pains to point out the competitiveness of the division means it is difficult to take too much for granted in it.

“It is good for the players and good for the club that we have won three on the bounce because it is so tough to do that,” he said. “It is only the first few days in February.

“This league tos and fros and it is so difficult. We have enjoyed the result and now we move on to next week.”

Dumbarton’s game against Brechin was called off on Saturday due to a waterlogged pitch. An alternative date is yet to be confirmed.
