Stupid errors make Gus sigh
QUEEN’S Park endured a tough afternoon after succumbing to a 3-1 defeat to Raith Rovers in League One.
The result enabled Rovers to reclaim top spot in the league, with the Spiders still rooted to the bottom.
“We made it very difficult for ourselves and they didn’t have to work too hard for the win,” lamented Gus MacPherson. “That is frustrating. Credit to our group, they worked hard and they didn’t make the individual mistakes that they did in the first-half.
“You could see the quality that Raith have from middle to front. We feel the frustration and the players feel the frustration. It is decision making at key moments. It is a learning curve for every player.”
Albion Rovers lost 1-0 to Arbroath, a result that keeps the Red Lichties in the running for back-toback promotion seasons.
Clyde had a happier afternoon after a last-gasp winner at Broadwood gave them a win over Edinburgh City.
It was, however, an afternoon that should have been far more straightforward than it ultimately proved to be.
David Goodwillie and Barry Cuddihy had given Danny Lennon’s side a 2-0 lead in the early stages before the visitors pulled two goals back either side of the interval. Edinburgh had a goal chopped off before Goodwillie netted the winner as the game drew to a close.
“It was a great start for us and at 2-0 we were in a really good position,” said Lennon. “But when they got one back, then got a penalty to level, I thought all the decisions were going against us – but the players showed quality and tremendous character to come back and win it.”
