Not Invincible but Cal wants Treble

-

when really it’s not. You look at some of the days we had last season.

“Everybody was at their peak, everybody was performing at their maximum. We had luck as well in the games.

“Certain bits of the game went for us. Everything just seemed to come together as a perfect season. This season, we have got a trophy, we are eight points clear, we are in the Europa League after Christmas.

“If you take that as its own season then it’s a great season as well.

“We know exactly what we’re doing in here and we know what the goal is. We just have to brush that off and keep going.

“It is impossible to do what we did last season again – an unbeaten Treble. It was a perfect season.

“If you look at this season on its own then it has still been a great season. You are always going to get people in football who are not happy with what you’re doing. That is just part and parcel of it.”

McGregor has found himself out of the starting line-up in the last two games, something that he appreciates is inevitable at a club like Celtic.

The arrival of Charly Musonda has meant the addition of another midfielder at the club and McGregor is well aware he has to fight for the jersey.

“Modern football’s about having a big squad and not everybody playing every week, so you’ve just got to be ready when the manager says you’re playing,” he said.

“You’ve got to be determined to get back in and don’t just sit there and say you’re happy for other boys to play.”

And McGregor has maintained that Brendan Rodgers’ man-management ensures that players do not feel overlooked.

“He speaks to the players and that’s one of the great things about him,” said McGregor. “He does it on a daily basis – you always know where you stand.

“He’ll say whatever reason he’s got for pulling you out and then tells you to get back in. It’s communication, he’s always talking to the players.”
